Our Mission

DISTRICT MANAGER

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

Provide innovative leadership and strategic direction to the Board of Supervisors, cooperators, and staff of PSWCD. Manage and supervise staff to implement agriculture, natural resource education and watershed health programs and activities in the district.

MAJOR DUTIES:

  • Maintain communication with the Board of Supervisors to keep them advised of the general direction and status of programs of the PSWCD.
  • Develop policies with the Board of Supervisors and implement them to assure that the mission of PSWCD is fulfilled.
  • Implement and conduct programs in accordance with board policy, NACD, AACD, Alaska and U.S. standards, laws and regulations.
  • Develop job descriptions, recruit, supervise, and train personnel.
  • Manage the financial affairs of PSWCD to assure proper accounting, budget preparation, annual plan of work, and reporting to the Board of Supervisors and AACD.
  • Identify and secure operating funds by preparing grant applications and partnership contracts with other funding sources.
  • Maintain contact between agricultural & natural resource industry agencies and PSWCD cooperators and serve as a link between them.
  • Maintain communication, coordination and liaison with AACD, NACD, NRCS, UAF and other relevant organizations to better serve PSWCD cooperators and provide technical leadership and expertise as appropriate.
  • Maintain equipment inventory and general management for the maintenance, repair and improvement of PSWCD facilities and equipment.
  • Prepare and manage meetings for the district.
  • Develop public information programs through individual contacts, media exposure, newsletters, and public appearances at civic groups, public schools, youth groups, and service clubs.

SPECIAL JOB CHARACTERISTICS:

  • Incumbent must be a self-starter, able to work with others and independently.
  • Knowledge of both nonprofit and government organizations is desired.
  • Incumbent must possess skill in office management and administrative duties.
  • Incumbent must be skillful in coaching, evaluating and assisting PSWCD and staff to achieve a high level of performance.
  • Incumbent must be knowledgeable about agriculture, natural resource conservation development principles and procedures.
  • Incumbent should possess working knowledge of the relevant industry practices and related regulatory matters.
  • Incumbent should be skillful in communicating information, ideas and concepts to a broad variety of audiences to include government agencies, business partners, school children, etc.

EDUCATION:

Agricultural degree or extensive experience in Agriculture, Agribusiness or related sciences is essential.

EXPERIENCE.

Experience in Agricultural production, research, education, or marketing programs related to agricultural production, and resource conservation practices and programs is essential.

Agricultural industry business management experience desirable.

Experience in grant-writing and administration is essential.
